Improve your photos with Upside Down Camera! Pro photographers compose images upside down to engage their left side brain and ensure photos are balanced between positive and negative space - color, shapes, and areas of light and dark.

Photos often have a strong subject on one side, leaving the other side empty, or areas with colors or light that aren’t compatible. Each element must be represented such that it is in Balance with all the others.

When you compose your images normally, you’re using the right side of your brain, the creative and visual side. You look at the whole first, and only then consider the parts.

When you compose upside down, you’re using the left side of your brain. You look at the parts first, putting them in logical order. Viewing these parts first – shapes, colors, and areas of light and dark – makes you think only in terms of positive and negative space, and this will help you compose balanced photos.

When we see objects in photos we are familiar with – trees, mountains – we pass over them quickly, often missing compositional errors. Turning images upside down breaks our ability to pass over them easily – we pay more attention to shapes, tones, and balance – it makes us abstract the composition down into its basic elements.
